    Joe,

All of those parts are going to be involved in doing the 'work' of the putting stroke. As for how you want to see yourself powering the stroke? I would say the lead arm is a good place to start.

With that said, I would also focus my attention on a steady throat line {neck line} from which the left arm can swing under. Unwanted neck or 'throat line' driving toward the hole on the down stroke makes it very difficult to develop 'touch'

    So to sum it up:
Steady neck / throat line set over the top of the putter at address

    Lead arm powered

Straight Stroking with lead arm swinging under the 'rock steady' neck

    Mike,

Just watched your 'Light Speed' dvd for the first time. Great Stuff!

I see that you prefer a 'slightly higher' than turned-shoulder plane top of the backswing position. Could you briefly elaborate on why this is desirable, verses a somewhat lower position?

    Thanks, Tracy

    Tracy,

Glad you are enjoying the videos, first off let me say that no one style is best or worse for the masses. Each individual will be better off with different styles, with that said, the Volume #3 Light Speed DVD illustrates different approaches for all sorts of swing needs. There is an advantage to a slightly higher backswing 'pitch' of the club as the golfer is able to do more work by getting the club to be further away from the ball. There is of course, a point of diminishing returns. If the golfer starts to go higher than their capacity will allow, consistency of contact may be compromised.

The main point is the back swing will be customizable as per the golfer, and I always like to cover all of the approaches.
