Default power lost and found - 06-11-2008, 10:00 AM

Dear Professor Mike,
As you know, I've been searching for power all my life. Is the following a correct analysis of the downswing sequence (straight line): pivot, spine tilt, right shoulder turns toward ball, DELAY UNFOLDING OF THE RIGHT ARM,BEGIN WRIST UNCOCKING, STRAIGHTEN RIGHT FOREARM INTO THE BALL,SWIVEL.

If so, how much of the right arm movement is "automatically" created by the pivot vs. a conscious effort to hit.?

Michaelherz,

that is a decent synopsis for 'YOUR PATTERN' maybe not someone elses'

I would change one thing in there for 'Your Pattern" -- I would NOT delay the unfolding of your right arm

I'm concerned that I'm not getting a "pop" into the ball, I think it's because I'm losing my folded right arm position too quickly, almost before I pivot...
I don't want to use the obsolete term "casting", but I feel I've lost power before coming into the ball, also, making a proper swivel very difficult, ergo, I'm slicing my drives. HELP

Michael,
Applying Negative torque --- actively negating movement in the right arm is not the way to stop it from straightening prematurely...

'Pop' golf culture encourages negative movements (such as delaying the right arm from straightening) to solve problems

The crux of the problem is usually elsewhere, you have to ask yourself why the bent right arm isn't being transported properly...
