    MJ, ALCON..

When did you all know that you were on the right track with your golf game?

For the seasoned players and competition players when did you know that when you walk on the course you would shoot your handicap or better?

For the Mid Cappers when did you know what you were working on in your game was starting to take affect?

As for the longer cappers how do you feel when the things you’re working on start to take affect and you see true results....

After all we are all working to get better so that we can see it in the score card in the end..... ?

Thanks for the help I am trying to understand the mind set it takes to reach levels that we are all trying to reach and have fun.

    Discipline.
Knowing that I couldnt get better by hitting balls at the range everyday is what did it for me. SLOW drills is what got me to the next level. Having enough discipline and dedication to wanting to get better. Understanding the swing and having the right instruction.
It is now starting to pay off. Mike is getting me to that next level of play.

After reading old/new forum posts here and Brian's site. and watching many of the videos.
and even more after a couple of lessons with and without ball/club delivery radar tracking devices. Re-learning why the ball flies a certain way.

Truly only a few times in competition.
The likely hood would increase after putting together a few good holes then would fall back slightly from the end of a particular round until the next round would begin the next day.
Good weeks would have less fall back between rounds.
It's always a work in progress

    This a great question RA,

I always notice a few things when I see a student taking it to the next level.

#1 - A lot of times students will shoot similar scores even after some very effective adjustments. They often show up for a lesson and say I am playing much better but my scores haven't changed. This is ok, I interpret it as they are shooting similar scores in a MUCH easier fashion. The scores then drop massively within a short time after.

#2 - The golfer puts his clubs away for the winter, grabs them at spring time and they pick up right where they left off. Great sign.....

As for competitive play and performing at the highest of levels:

A lot of times it requires a shift in thinking... even though they are high end golfers they are trying to make a swing or move that isn't in their best interest. Basically, they got some hideous instruction. The shift in thinking takes place, then getting the body to cooperate is the major step.

A positive expectancy for continual improvement is when you know

It just happened. Within the last two weeks I experienced almost exactly what Mike described. My scores actually took a turn for the worse. I was striking the ball better in general, but my mistakes were horiffic and were either OB, hazards, or unplayable. As my short game was struggling, I was putting pressure on my long game to hit every green or at least high percentage up-and-downs.

After some serious putting practice post SAM-lab I finally got the putter working, spent more time at the short-game facility and it has fallen into place. Two weeks ago I would have killed to shoot 75 on the real course I play, Sunday I was somewhat annoyed to only have 73. I have had more putts for eagle in the past two weeks than I had prior to that all year. In addition, when I do screw up, there is less concern because I feel that I can still salvage par, or if not, I will get it back on the par 5's or easier par 4's. One thing I have heard from playing partners is that "your swing looks so smooth and easy," when in fact I believe I am swinging harder (no, faster) than ever. Confidence relaxes muscles and makes fairways look wider and greens bigger.

Finally, I know it is probably a perspective issue, but it seems when I am playing well and more confident, that the golfing gods are with me. Lies in the rough seem to improve, balls in the trees have a path towards the green and missed shots seem to be on the preferred side of the fairway/green. I wonder if it had anything to do with my wife making me go to church recently?
