MJ,

I have been having a the problem of falling towards my toes during the backswing and/or downswing. This is causing me to end up closer to the ball than when I started and I am way off balance. I have heard to try and hit with my toes curled in the air. Would that be correct?

If I try to stay on my heels I feel that I am using all arms. Any suggestions or drills to help with this problem would be great.. Thanks.

Jon,

Sounds like there is some errors in your kinematic sequence {swing sequence of body moves}

Most golfers who shimmy off balance are having their shoulders reach peak speed before their hips on their downswing swing sequence. Why that is happening is another story, over accelerating? Trying to tumble down the club face on the way down? What do you think is causing??? Does it feel like over accelerating>?

MJ,

I believe that this is more of a backswing issue with me. For some reason my weight goes to my toes in the backswing. Perhaps this is b/c in all other sports you are taught to play on your toes but in golf b/c it is stationary it is just the opposite. How do you fix the problem for the backswing? Should I just try and stay on my heels more? Thanks.

Jon,

Is the club popping out away from you too much on the backswing?

I would say yes. I will pay more attention to this. What makes you think that this is the case?

It is the usual case when someone drastically moves towards their toes on the backswing. A little more 'left side bend' on the backswing will help avoid the toes issue and the pop-out

Good question Plum,
Should have explained it!

POP OUT = Generic term coined by my good friend Brian Manzella and it means the grip end of the club actually moving away from your body at the start of the backswing. The gap between the grip end of club and your body increases as the club goes back.

Hope that helps, let me know if you need a picture!

I think I have got it, so if i pushed my arms out at the start of the swing,instead of moving them straighter back this would be coined pop-out?

You got it plum... pop out creates a lot of issues with the most popular issue being the club getting thrown back behind you after the pop out....

Keep us posted on your progress!
