    MJ,
Hey.... How are you? Last few days been trying to figure out how to have a go to shot when things aren't going well.
Had a rough weekend at the club championship event. Just flat out had a rough time.
I like playing tournaments but I dont know why I dont do better? I have been having a tough time shooting the scores that I normally shoot in rounds..
I have played tons of events and they just arent the same as a normal round ..once you place the (T) in front of my score i shoot say 4 strokes higher than my handicap.
Even my regular rounds I play one ball I play the ball down I count every stroke .. I try to add pressure to the rounds .. I play from the back tees as the events are played ... I play morning rounds .. evening rounds.... I just havent figured it out....
Some one out there please help make sense of this.. I know I am not the only one.. I practice shaping the ball I try to hit a D-plane straight ball... I work on my short game... I have asked questions on the site I have read tons of books...
I just am so frustrated and i have a company 2 man scramble and i want to help my partner as i am suppose to be one of the better golfers in the shop and i feel like im not playing well enough to help...
I want to play and I love it .. but lately I just like playing by myself evening rounds walking just chilling hitting a shot find it and hit it again and then putt it in the hole .... I shoot awesome scores then i might add...

    Ra,

Tournament golf is an entirely different situation and a whole different animal. Playing in tournaments and being put under the microscope requires a whole different set of skills. If you stick a Flightscope on the PGA tour you will see different statistics on a Tuesday practice round than a Sunday final round. Swing speeds have shown to even increase on tour players on Sundays.

Golf game is a 4 hour experience where you are only actually swinging & playing for a few minutes of the four hours. The rest of the round is a skull exercise. Ra if you are better in practice - you just need more experience on under the microscope !

I am by no means an expert but you could try getting some of Bob Rottellas books or audio if you like that better. It really sounds like a sports Psychologist may help you get over what reads like anxiety issues that probably create tension in your game.
Again, I am not an expert but sometimes people just think themselves out of peak preformance.
Hope that is of some little help.

    Repetitive Golfing

What does fine play feel so fleeting? Why do tournaments seem more difficult?

No matter what you do, no matter how well you master your pattern your swing will never be identical over and over.

'Even Ping Man doesn't make identical swings every time'

Dr Paul Wood, Research Engineer at Ping

What you want to do as a player, is remove as many variables as possible which would cause problems.

As for tournament play, players usually make an attempt to try harder - the more torque in the hands - body - club the more variations in low point and impacting conditions which then creates varying conditions in the dynamic golf club.
For those who need a clearer Definition: Torque is the tendency of a force to cause or change rotational motion of a body.
