    OK people,
I attended a 1 day Tour Tempo seminar yesterday in Orlando.
first I must state that my goals were a little different than most. I have developed a weird inability to just take the club back and as MJ will tell you I can stand over the ball for a good 90 seconds but still hit a good shot.
The premise behind tour Tempo is that John Novosel came across a pattern in tempo when he was reviewing swings frame by frame. It seemed that tour players had a 3:1 ratio regardless of how fast or slow they swung. An example was that tiger woods took 21 frames from address to impact, 14 frames back and 7 frames to impact. Other pro's were maybe 24 frames, 1 back 8 to impact but all had a 3 to 1 ratio. John put this to tones that you listen too and they create a "tour tempo".
    now for the clinic.
I got there and met John Jr. who is running the show with Rocky Kinsey the head pro at the facility and a former Nationwide player. They introduce themselves and we are off to the range where there is a canopy with chairs and the guy from Flight scope. I asked him if he knew MJ and he told me that Mike was coming to Orlando on Tuesday to do a seminar for them about using the flight scope. We each took turns hitting drivers on the scope and my numbers were all in the good range, my path was almost "0" and my VSP had increases I think it was 45 which was great because MJ and I were working on that.
We busted into the tones with ipods but I had mine on my iphone with a Bluetooth Motorola S10 headset that I recommend to anyone playing sports. We hit balls with John figuring which tempo each of us should use.
Next we busted out the training aids, first the speed ball which is a Velcro device and we used it with all it's attachments then we got into more tempo stuff and application of the tones. I had an almost immediate improvement, I was able to do the tones pres hot routine and then swing with the tones and was seeing a little more distance with my shots. It would seem that little compensations we make in our swings disappear with the tempo musical tones.
You still need good swing fundamentals as one guy was really struggling, but if you got a decent move it really helped to lock in the kinematic sequence.
After lunch we did a TPI evaluation and got some tips on physical training that will enhance areas of our bodies that will make it easier to make a good swing. i like that John made it clear that good fundamentals are needed to have a good swing but TPI can enhance that by getting your body ready to preform.
The last thing we did was to use the Power tools training club which is a club with a hinge and some resistance bands that help both the tempo going back and through. you can check it out on their website.
I had a really great time and would encourage anyone to use the Iphone app or buy the book. It won't replace good fundamentals but it will enhance them.
I played my home course today (Eagle trace) and I was hitting it like a champ. I definitely had a little more pop to my shots and the tones in my head(I found a Van Halen song that had the tempo)were really giving me an edge to just play and focus on my game.
    Well that's all I got,
    Ric

    Ric,

    Sounds interesting.

After taking the class, is your tempo faster or slower? or is a more consistent tempo the main theme?

    tom,
to really understand it you should probably read the book or download the app as I am not the best at explaining, but it's not that it is slower or faster but it is now a 3:1 more consistently which seems to add a cadence or rhythm to my swing.

    Ric,

Thanks for posting this. I was curious to see the results. I bought the book when it came out and kind of forgot that I had it. Maybe I should break it out and load up my ipod. There is a guy up here who worked with Novosel doing research. I may have to check him out. His sales pitch is teaching speed. Maybe with the fundamentals I have learned from MJ and a little more speed I can do something next season to drop some shots.

BTW, what tune from VH did you find? If I remember the CD from the book, not exactly rocking.

I am still trying to find the actual song from VH but I play the chords in my head

I don't think you need to see a teacher for the information. there is plenty video on youtube and MJ can help with any transition problems, but hey I went to see the man so who am I not to recommend it.
you can find quite a few 3:1 rock songs to hum in your head if you think about it a little. da - da da, da - da da. that's all it really is.
    good luck with it.
I also did a 1-2, 1-2 for putting and chipping.

Interesting, thanks for the update Ric.

Not sure I will get the app but I looked at the Youtube clips and I like the ideas. It seems like there is some similarity to the idea of getting some stress on the shaft in the backswing that Mike and Brian have talked about and the Tour Tempo suggesting that most players backswings are too slow.

    Thanks for sharing.

I would say that for me it definitely torqued my transition a little and gave me a few more yards that i desperately need.
I am hoping that over time I can get a little more and that coupled with the Mechanics that I have worked with MJ and BManz on I can really start to play at a serious level.

    Ric,

Great report! I always like hearing your take on your experiences because your opinions and experiences are always 100% fair and dependable. It is always nice to hear and see new fresh ideas that are in the industry. Glad to hear they had a Flightscope too!!!
