Thoughts on the British Open,

I can honestly say that I don't get much of a chance to watch entire telecasts of tour events as I am usually only catching bits and pieces. As always, I watch the entire British Open telecast. Thurs, Fri, Sat I watch via DVR and Sunday I take off and watch the whole final round live.

I found this year to be very unique as it seemed like the tv coverage of the event was endless. I very rarely speak out and criticize but the commentary is astonishingly poor. This is what golfers listen to week after week???

Made me think ---- The everyday golfer is inundated with volumes of contradictory often detrimental instruction from those who are decorated teachers, inundated with shops full of cookie cutter golf clubs which are supposed to help if you spend $499 on the latest club and only to find it obsolete from the same company 3 weeks later... to add insult to this it shows up on rock bottom discount golf . org for $99 which includes free shipping & probably a free USGA handicap. After all that, sit down and watch weekend golf and listen to such inaccurate commentary is beyond belief. This is why golf is on the decline .....

Just some observations & frustrations from a concerned local pro!!!

For what it is worth, the commentary on golf is not too much worse than in other sports. Ever listen to a Yankee game on the radio? However, the entire golf media should be ashamed of the way they treat the average golfer with respect to instruction.

The whole golf industry is a farce. Billion dollar industry with all the over price clubs that suppose to be better 6 months later with teachers making big bucks that dont know squat and get away with it.Some good equipment like trackman and flight that a teacher buys and cant explain it right. Contridiction between teachers is the biggest farce of all, and who pays the majority of us (the hackers) who for years try to get better trying to find the so called holy grail when there is none. The closest thing I got is brian and mike.....jmo

Mike, I wish it was only $499. While deciding which of the shafts you had recommended, my Launcher shaft broke. Since I had just gotten a nice check I decided to go all out with custom Trackman fitting. Damn shaft was more expensive than most drivers. I suspect I walked into the place with SUCKER stamped on my forehead.
