What do you think of this grip? Any advantages or disadvantages? Ever teach it to anyone and why?

    Hi Walt,

Great question. In a 5 month season, I teach about 1,000 people a year, maybe more with the welcome to golf classes I do which are very big classes. I am trying to give a rough estimate opinion of how many show up with a 10 finger grip. Well,
Beginners / Ladies / Juniors are the most frequent 10 finger grip demographic. If I have someone who comes to me with a 10 finger grip and I deem their grip good as is, I don't make any changes. If they need a grip change, I may move them to an overlap grip or leave the 10 finger alone. I may even consult with them the situation.....

I never give someone an interlock grip but I leave it alone if they have one and its functional.

Total beginners I try to be sure to have under the heel pad and put more emphasis on that than how they are joining their hands.

As for the pros and cons of a 10 finger grip,
Pros - extra thumb print on the club
Cons - hands are closer together in an over lap or interlock grip

Thats about it for pros and cons in my opinion...

Thank you for the reply. I am going to stay with the ten finger grip for awhile. It makes it much easier for me to get a swivel in my swing.

I have played a few rounds recently with a guy who uses a left hand low grip (you know, that awkward putting grip that some guys now use) and wonder why anyone would persist in using this grip for all shots.

He says he was once a single digits 'capper, which is not quite beyond belief as he occasionally hits the odd good shot now, but three figures scores are his norm' these days.

Anyone else out there use this grip, or know of someone who does?

I have seen some players out on the golf course using a reverse hand grip.... I have never had a student show up doing that, I think there is a professional tour player who uses that grip or at least he was on the scene a couple of years back.
