Mike, great lesson today. You have helped me tremendously. What does the should being correct and not dipping then left shoulder matter? Do most tour player have the shoulder turn you teach or are some not " level" thanks.

Mike, I'm watching the Viking Classic and to be honest most of these golfers left shoulder is lower than the right on the backswing. It's obvious too but I'm sure you have data

Horse, I do not think Mike teaches a "level" shoulder turn. I suspect that you, like I, tend to make a very vertical shoulder turn. He had given me a drill that involves a "level" shoulder turn to induce a feeling of a less vertical shoulder turn. If you look at any of Mike's videos he clearly does have his (and Rick's or Brian's for that matter) left shoulder lower than the right. It is a question of degree.

    Great post Phana!

    Horse,

During our lesson I was helping you make an upper body move that was much more level than the one you were doing. With the golf ball on the ground, it is impossible to achieve a truly level upper trunk move.

3D motion capture of high end golfers shows that they are staying in a 'golfer's posture' by allowing the left side of their body to bend as their upper trunk rotates back at a 'leveling rate'

The drill I often emphasize for golfer's who move their trunk too steep like you were doing horse, is to adopt a standing straight up posture - make a level trunk rotation, and then add about 15-20 degrees of left side bend to adopt an excellent backswing body pivot.

Most amateurs and even teaching pros watch golf swings and see the golfer staying in a 'golfing posture' and assume that the golfer is rotating around their spine and not changing their forward - back - and side bend. I am going to suggest to you that there is every indication that this is NOT happening like everyone thinks.

The 'pop' posture backswing that is disastrous is just like Homer Kelley Rotated Shoulder turn - which is an example of a horrific method .

Let me know if we need a little office video clip explanation of this. I will be in office this afternoon and all day tomorrow catching up on my website and making office clips to answer questions.

Hope that helps Horse! It was good to see you, was good to see how much you have improved!
