    To all,
Idea's on how you all work on short shot swing tempo? Under pressure i seem to get short and quick.
I have been working on what I read on Bmanz site as a mid sole pitch and also a "Ernest Jones" Swinging the club head pitch with 3 wedges 50, 55, 60. nice soft shots some run out some spin and check i havent figured out the touch yet.

Still putting in the work though tons of balls and charting average distance from the hole that allows a one putt.

    Raswing,

For me when the swing gets shorter than normal, the "pause" that is normally in the full swing at the top becomes to short. Thus you get the quick swing you were talking about. You could say the force accross the shaft from the right hand or even the force along the shaft is too active in the downswing.

Practice swinging the club up to even halfway to the top of your normal backswing nice and slow until the club comes to a slow stop and feel the "weight" of the club start the downswing. The back and forth drill would be ideal to get the feel and then walk into a ball. That will give you your true distance for a more pure swinging pitch shot.

Probably will need new distance measurements for these styles of shots. I know I did! It is much better once you get it down though.

    Good luck, keep it up!

Then have a friend place a ball on the ground where you are making contact. Get to where you can hit three in a row, placed balls.

This will help you develop a consistent swing speed!!!

    IMO

It works good eh Matt? The thing I noticed when watching Brian do this with a couple of students at the GTE was that the players didn't attempt to "hit" the ball, they just swung through and the bounce of the club did it's work to keep the club from digging into the turf.

Having the friend help you is ideal, I agree, but in lieu of a buddy that doesn't want to get to close to your swinging club, if you place a couple of balls down in the rough and swing back and forth and then simply walk into where the balls are you get a similar effect. The drill is difficult to execute perfect shots but the idea is to get a free flowing swing to make the contact, and to get away from digging or hitting.

Yes definitely, an element of trust must be there.
