Yesterday I got the opportunity to check out the SAM putt lab and the Flightscope X2 at Michael's golf school in Manorville, Ny. I was up visiting my friend Steve who is the head professional at Laurel links, a private club on the North Fork of long Island as well as visiting with Mike.
First, setting up the SAM is much easier to do and the attachment you put on the shaft is much lighter than the TOMI. The calibration took no time at all and off we went. Steve was up first and after making about 5 putts Mike was able to have enough sampling to print out a report that showed path, impact vertical swing plane and a few other pieces of information that enabled him to diagnose any stroke. There are parameters set up on Mike's unit that show a grey bar for where the best performance areas are. Steve was very consistent, about .6 degree's in to out. They made a minor adjustment by aligning his forearm with the shaft and his numbers just jumped into those grey boxes.
I went second and all we had to do was move my ball position a little forward because I was de-lofting the putter. After making the adjustments Mike gives you a printout that shows the before and after numbers and all the stats, pretty neat stuff.(there is a lot more data but I am not going to try and remember it all right now)
We went over to the range where Steve Jumped on the X2. first MJ drove the official X golf school vehicle over which has a computer and large video screen that works with the Flightscope in it.
the X2 is very impressive, first we watched as it self-leveled which is really neat as now the teacher doesn't have to waste time doing that and them MJ was able to do a really quick calibration by lining up cross hairs on the video screen over the ball and target and that fast we were into instruction. Steve's numbers were good but after looking at the data (which is a little beyond me at this time) MJ was able to take a professional and improve his smash factor from 1.3 to 1.4 and add 13 yards to a 6 iron. It started to rain so I wasn't able to get on the X2, but the visuals are amazing and ease of use was very evident. MJ told us that there was more to show us but we could only scratch the surface because the weather wasn't cooperating.
the video graphics were really the best Iv'e ever seen to this point and clearly the measurements were spot on. this is a very impressive piece of technology.
I hope to get on it my next time up to NY.
