What is it that Rick does in his swing and Greg McHatton appears to do in his swing that gives those types of swings that different look? Is this what TGM called "float loading"? Is there something else i am missing?

Is there any benefit to whatever it is those two do that gives that different appearance?

    Thx,
    JD

Rick's got one one of the pretties damn swings I've ever seen. I think I watched the smooth video tip about 172 times back to back, just loved it.

He's in the swing library too w/ MJ. It's like butta!

    JD,

When I swing best, my shoulders, arms and wrists are completely responsive to my pivot. It is also important that I feel the club head during the entire motion. So I am letting my arms respond to the pivot and the wrists respond to the weight of the club head in both directions.

The sequencing in the downswing starts with hip acceleration then shoulders, arms and finally the club head. This is what I think would be beneficial to many golfers as I see all too often that the shoulders accelerate too early in the downswing.

Thanks Rick for the reply. Good thought on not accelerating the shoulders too early.

I struggle with too much tension as i take it back - Michael in a couple of our lessons felt this tension in my arms/hands/upper body and asks that i relax and get rid of that tension; i know feels are tough to go off of, but do you feel that your hands, arms, wrists are like wet noodles that respond to your pivot or is that too extreme of a feeling?

You guys know what i mean when i talk ab Rick's swing vs others though? Michael has a beautiful swing that is powerful and also looks like it is happening in slow motion, but does not have that same look as yours does Rick... is it simply just a sweep or gradual release vs a more delayed release that changes the appearance?

    Thanks for answering multiple questions.

    Best,
    Jim

    Jim,

What I think you are seeing in my stroke is a good amount of drag loading with steady acceleration. Mike's swing has "explosive" power as I witnessed on the course the other day.

What I am getting out of this discussion is for us students to concentrate on a good backswing pivot, execute your downswing pivot, and stop worrying about float-loading, delaying lag and all that other stuff. Artificial manipulation(s) of the hands generally cause far more problems than they solve.

For me, stop reading esoteric discussions in other forums about minutia that plus-handicappers and pros may find useful and just worry about making solid contact with the damn ball and make sure your divots are close to where you are aiming.
