i have a couple of questions..... i really like the idea that you and brian are good friends and work together......that way i feel at ease asking about someone else work................in the soft draw......
ques 1................how do you get to your right side without moving your arms or beginning your pivot.
ques 2...............being a kinda big statured person and barrel chested..
from the top in the soft draw ..how do you move left without your upper body going past the ball....
now mike, with all respect to you ......i know the answers......not being sarcastic......i DO KNOW THE ANSWERS.......i just dont know how to do it..
in closing i am very appreciative for your site..................i think the world of brian.....great hyper fun guy...........i would help brian in any way i could..........but i don't understand, the questions..the answers etc..
oh i read all of it.......its just beyond me..................again with respect.......this site is great cuz you are talking to people like me...
no dissing bman..............i do almost understand soft draw

Hey Eck,
Good questions...
Tell me a little more about the swing pattern you are trying to achieve and where you are having troubles. From what is sounds like in your questions here is what I suggest. In the picture below I have drawn 2 lines... On the back swing, your goal should be to close up the space between the leg and line as that club goes back ... and on the downswing close up that space between the left leg and line to ensure the proper tilt on the downswing. Even being barrel chested, you should be able to accomplish this

ECK, I know where your coming from. B-man excellent teacher but his answers are hard for me to decipher. I find smart men cant explain to the average guy. That being me. I got all of his videos and dont understand most. Mike however I do understand (That dont mean your dummer than brian). Mike explain d-plane....joe

Eck,
There are many ways to train yourself to close up the gap in the backswing and downswing. On the backswing I would look into 2 different drills. The first is to make practice pivots without a club where you focus on starting your swing by getting your shirt logo to cover over your right foot on the backswing. I know that you said you were barrel chested so you will have to modify how much of this you can achieve. Of course, your arms will be will eventually reach a higher location. Larger chested folks are going to have a tougher time closing that gap on the backswing, so thir pattern is going to have to be modified.
As for on the way down, the way to achieve closing that gap down ad steeping on that left foot before contact with the ball is to move your butt (tailbone/pelvis) forward until it runs into that left hip socket.
Hope that helps, these are the easiest ways to try to achieve the tasks..

i found (past tense) that when i did the logo...over the right foot i would get off balance going back.............so i stood in front of a mirror and did the drill piece by piece I found that my right leg was straghtining on the way back....(ah)........my weight was to far forward
modification 1= get balanced on set up.......keep right knee a bit flexed, mike the back knee (right knee for me ) can screw up the whole takeaway if not monitored.......NEEDS TO STAY FLEXED
d/s.....modification 2= move the butt as you say to the left pocket will bring weight left.......LEFT FOOT DOWN
i reread that a few times and Then realized you said TO the left pocket.............EXCELLENT................BECAUS E THEN I CAN RIGHT SHOULDER TO THE BALL.....AND LEFT THEN GOES LEFT....
how do you keep from having the hip go too forward===almost a slide? do i just think turn more to the left hip rather than a forward shift of the hips?

Great question Landshark,
It really depends upon what the golfer needs to improve upon. If someone is continually coming over the plane on the way down, they need to feel like they are sliding their butt and hips very forward in order to flatten or shallow the club out on the way down.
Someone who has a tendency to come in too much below the plane on the way down would need to feel the opposite. They would need to feel something much more like you are describing. They would need more of an opening feel of the hips like I described in the short video tip hip action. So the 2 extremes are there and you as the golfer needs to modify to fit your pattern. Hope that helps..
