I am having some success with the shorter irons but the longer clubs like my hybrids, 3 wood, and driver are more eratic. My primary miss with the longer clubs is to the left. It starts to the left and usually draws some, but sometimes it is just a straight miss to the left They are very solid hits but wind up 20, 30, or more yards left of my target.
Any thoughts?
James has not been able to get out to play yet as he has been on call. He expects to get out next weekend.

Edit: P.S. I am still struggling with the short game. I seem to have a real disconnect when attempting these shots.
Steve,
You played for a long time with the clubface wide open relative to your swing track so now you are working out the strong tendency where you pull across the ball and make a strong club face closing addition. The 'pull across the ball' used to compensate for the open face, but now that we have improved your grip and club face relative to your swing track, you need to readjust and improve the track of your stroke.
You need to keep working on adding the new key component for you which is adding 'axis tilt' where your pelvis moves forward of your neck on downswing and creates the passageway for the right shoulder to turn towards the ball. I recommend this tip posted below to help along with the airplane drill {are you familiar with the airplane drill?}:
As for the short game - train that body move with left wrist staying flat - sweet spot not hosel at ball
