Sure Eck,
Simple Terms for everyone ----
What Eck is referring to is Chapter #7 in The Golfing Machine. Chapter 7 is a chapter that lists Homer Kelley's 24 components along with their definition.
His component # 3 is called 'Stroke Basic'
What this means is the basic position of the right arm at what is known as 'Release Point'
'Release Point' is easiest to see as the point where the golfer starts to 'line the club up' for contact
7-3 is extremely poorly written, I don't think the everyday Joe can gleam a bit from it... Here is what you want to take from it:
The right arm can be at the side -- he called this a punch location
The right arm can be in front of the body -- pitch location {originally called a 'Slap' location in earlier editions}
Push - elbow way back at the side with the hands between the elbow and club
There are also other minor arm moves discussed in this component, basically they are ways the arms can move during short game shots around the green.
All the other stuff described in 7-3 can be thrown out... hitting / Swinging references and alignment procedures of the right arm can be thrown out as described in the text as it is been trumped by modern technology.
So basically, above is what I would recommend someone take from 7-3 - nothing more
FOr those that try to line their right forearm at address on the club shaft and try to do a 'right forearm takeaway' you may want to study the concept of Side Bend
Hope that helps!!!
