Hi, just wondering if any one else suffers from the no divot syndrome and what to work on..I played today after working on flattening my left wrist in the hope of compressing the ball a bit better but was dissapointed with the results.I rarely take a divot with my irons and feel i dont get the distance i should and to cap it all my driver, which is normally my best club,i was pushing right and losing about 20 yards of my normall distance.Any help would be great..

    Cheers

Pmac, I suggest you get your golf swing hitting a real ball on video and post it here. It is almost impossible for someone to tell you with any degree of certainty what is going on absent a video. Ideally, an HD video with 150-300 fps is preferred, but even a decent video will give the pros an opportunity to properly diagnose your swing issues.

If you do not have such a device at hand, I am sure a friend or acquaintance has something you can use. Perhaps purchasing a few pints for said friend will be sufficient renumeration for rental. Take a look back through old threads to see how these are usually done. You want to get one representative shot "face-on" where the camera is facing your perpendicular to your target line at the point where the ball is. You will also want one "down-the-line" which is taken from behind on the target line.

Well, I had to get rid of the flip a couple of years ago. Two things that helped were a drill similar to this one YouTube - ‪Video Tip #8 'Set Up vs Contact'‬‏

Start with a wedge, but then move onto half shots with the 8 and 6-iron. You can even place a tee in the ground a couple of inches in front of the ball and force yourself to hit the tee after the ball. Another way to force yourself to strike the ball and then ground is to practice 3/4 iron shots in a bunker. If you are a training aid guy, the Tour Striker was helpful to me.

The other thing that helped me was to exaggerate the feel that Mike describes in the Nuke video about either pulling or throwing the shaft down at the ball. The "throw the ball at the ground" drill is helpful on this one. You get some real intersting stares at the range doing it, but it works.

Thanks for the info, checked out the video i like the look of the drill. With the throw the ball should you be trying to hit the ball on the ground or just in front of it?I tried it at home with a couple of foam balls and found i was thowing the ball out side of the one on the ground(to the right as you look down)looks like i have a lot of work to do..

You want to hit the thrown ball at the low point of your swing, i.e. just ahead of the ball. Regarding "throwing" the ball hitting right of target, where would you expect the ball to go if you released it early? Try releasing it wayy early and it will sail 3 ft right. Try releasing it wayyyy late and it will go 3 ft left.

FYI, all this stuff is worth it. Since my full day with Mike I have really been striking the ball unlike any time in my life.

    IMHUO:

Based on what you said about your driver ball flight and the fact that when you did the "throw the ball down the line" drill, you threw to the right, I'd say you probably swinging too far to the right.

You said your driver is usually your best club. Can you hit a slight fade/straight shot off the deck with it? I think you'll have a problem getting it more than 4 or 5 feet off the ground.

Definitly try to get some video, even if it's not the best quality wise. To echo what Phana said, it's just a guess as to what's really going on unless you can put some eyes on it.

There's a wide variety of things that could be going on especially if you injury has affected your swing, which it probably has in some way, shape or form.

It would aslo agree with Phana in regards to the Tour Striker. If you're flipping you won't be able to the ball airborn. Again, without video it's just a wild guess but if you are working on a flat left wrist and your pushing shots out to the right with less distance, it sounds like you were possibly a flipper out of necessity, and now you need to learn proper club face control amongst a few other things.

    You're in the right place!
