I started up for the season, began to hit balls and filmed my self, I still have a tendency to stand up on my back swing. I know it could be from my balance issues due to my surgery but, really need to minimize it. Any advice Mike?

I am emailing you the video of my swuing as a attachment that I took the other day of my swing I took with my phone, can't figure out how to upload it to the forum, it is a .mp4 file that I zipped up....Thanks....Eugene

    Eugene,

Your video came out sideways as you can see in the above post, not sure how that happened to you. Anywho, your swing look much improved!! We did some nice work last year, I remember when we started you had a pronounced hook. As you watch the swinging motion, it is easy to see an upward movement of the torso on the backswing. Your right shoulder is 'jacking' itself up a bit as you approach the change of direction to the forward swing.. As for your question if this is something we should remedy?
It really depends, it is a movement that you have always had to some extent. I will need to see the shape of your swing, if you are tugging the club too far around you on the upswing you are going to end up needing to 'jack' the right shoulder to make the pattern work. If the shape of your swing is good then I wouldn't worry too much about it. When we workout during our first lesson I will take a look , in the meantime if you want to make sure your practices are worthwhile take some video of the front view and the down the line view with the camera on the ball line.
Oh, and when shooting try not to have the camera sideways

Thanks mike. Will try to reshoot the swing. And Willow focused on the shoulders.

I'll leave the instruction to Mike but I would like to note that lifting your head in the backswing isn't necessarily a bad thing. Jamie Sadlowski does it:

    Eugene,

First off I want to say how proud I am of you, taking a look at that clip compared to where we started with your first lesson last season is amazing. You have come a long way and now have a very dynamic pattern, I would leave it as is until we have our first session. I do want to take an indepth look at the shape of your swing, so come soon or post up a down the line view with the camera on the target line.

    Great job!!!
