    Longer Distances

    ALCON,

Wanted to know what you all did to control the urge to hit the ball harder than you physically can control because of the distances of the hole or if you are playing in an event/tournament and you feel you need extra distance…?

You usually play say from 6800 yards and then you get moved back to 7100 yards or you play 6500 and get moved back to 6900 that’s a lot of long par 4s and par 3’s. What do you all do…

    I.E
What are the thoughts that you have?
What’s the practice routine know you will be playing a longer course?
Do you do any fun stuff at your course to help prepare for longer shots?
(Play irons off all the tees to make you hit longer shot. Trade drives with buddies that may be shorter than you?)

How do you fight the kill it urges?

Best ways you play par 3’s
Best way you play par 4’s
Best way you play par 5’s

    RA,

Longer golf courses have become the norm! Competitive golf has taken an unruly approach to lengthening golf courses. The problem is that the size of the greens remain unchanged. The golf courses were carefully designed with a green size that was calculated to accept shots of a certain distance. The tournament agencies have now lengthened golf courses dramatically and have left the greens the same size. Putting greens are accepting shots from distances that the designer never considered. I say leave the golf courses alone and lower the Coefficient of Restitution on the driver drastically. Make a 250 yard drive something to strive for.

Par 3's have become ludicrous, a green designed for a mid iron now requires a hybrid and makes the situation more difficult. So like I said in a earlier post, there are a lot more shots in a round of golf that require you to shoot away from a flag more and more. Attacking these long golf courses is limited. When trying to power up, I would do it sporadically

    MJ,
Thanks never thought of that... some one needs to tell those tournament agencies that we arent touring pro's and arent trying to be in many of our cases.

Some body does need to get some sense in these tournament agencies. Our local one in the metropolitan area is a joke.

Years ago I signed up and played in a Head Pro Golf Tournament and played fairly well at the time, and 79 was a struggle with the US Open like conditions.

Amateur & club pro events should be fun and exciting, not stressful due to extreme playing conditions.

    MJ,
As today was the first day of my week long Military Inv... It was windy as all get out and the course was set up crazy challenging.... Greens double cut and rolled.... 3 of the Par 3's played over 200 ( 215, 225, 202 ) all into the wind and the short one played 168 to the pin.

Tough day scoring with the entire field. No one shot Par, best score for the day was 73 only had 9 rounds in the seventies and this field are all low cappers.... crazy tough... But you have to play the course as you find it and the ball as it lies.... So I will try my best again in the morning... Thanks for all the advice.
