I have developed a problem with an occasonal wild pull/duck hook. Generally it is the driver, but will also yank a mid-iron once in a while. It is especially noticeable on a less than full shot. I suspect I have my left hand too much in the fingers. I set up with a close to palm-neutral grip, but sometimes when I look at my grip after the swing, I see almost four knuckles. I am guessing that I am regripping or just moving the left hand on top of the club during the swing.

Overall my ball-striking is better than ever, but uncharacteristically (for me) it is my iron game that has been stellar while the driver is only acceptable. When I put powder on the face during practice, I seem to be hitting more balls on the top of the face than the sweet spot. It is not causing an scoring issue since I am hitting my irons so well, but wedges do get closer than 7 or 8 irons. Any thoughts appreciated.

    Dan,

I reviewed all the swings and your post. One quick question before I give some advice...

Somewhat. When I hit with powder or impact tape, the misshit ratio is 5:1 toe and an occasional ball I think is a toe is actually struck in the middle with a very closed face. Methinks thou have the answer.

I must say your overall swing movement looks very good. I do see the pedigree for a toe hit. You can see in this zoomed in capture a toe hit took place:

The only thing I can see from the videos you put up is:
I would feel like the right side of your body "shrinks' more on the backswing as opposed to extending and getting longer. When the right side of your body extends it promotes 'toe' Extending the right side your body on the backswing promotes that very problematic 'lean left' during the backswing

By the way - next time can you position the camera a bit further away from you!!!

OK, that makes sense. Will have some more vids up this weekend.

The six iron swings have the incorrect turn onto the right side. The driver is a very slight improvement from last week, but I still need to get a little more to the right side (without having the right knee move away from the target).

I am guessing this explains why my short irons (and wedges) have been lights out, while the driver is all over the place? There is a lot of room for error on these clubs, but as I progress to the 6 and 5 irons, the toe hits and pulls begin. I know some of this is mental, when I have a tigher fairway I subconsciously want to restrict my turn to try and steer the ball.

Played all weekend Friday was 69 on 66.5 rating, Sat was 79 on 70.1 (two drives OB, 2 chip-outs from rough and one unplayable lie), and yesterday was 73 on 70.1. From 150 in I have never played better. If I can keep the #*^##@ ball in play off the tee I can really score.
