Kevin,
Great question and I think a very good idea...
Ultimately, we all know that how you join your hands on the grip is a matter of choice and person style. Proper placement of the hands on the grip is all that really matters and how you join the hands is optional. With that said, I always recommend an 'Overlap' style grip to my students. If a student arrives with an interlock or 10 finger grip, I only suggest changes if I see some issues with the way they are handling the control of the club face. I have found that an Overlap grip is far superior and always recommend its use. An interlocking grip has been used by many great players and lots of amateurs and if you use it successfully then great, but I have seen many golfers struggle with an interlocking grip as they start to have issues with their right hand. The right hand starts to empower itself in an interlock grip when the golfer starts squeeze or shift the the right hand underneath the grip for comfort. The more the hands shift on the club pre swing the greater the opportunity to have club face control issues.
To sum it up, I would make the switch!!!
