I am faced with a dilemma. I will soon recieve my Tax refund check, but I am not sure what I am going to do with some of it. I know the majority of it will be used to buy golf lessons..because that seems very logical since I am new to golf. I dont know what I should do with the other half of it. Should I buy a very nice Camera(casio exilim), or should I go and get fitted for clubs??? Here's the deal...I am pretty athletic, and I dont lack in size 6'2 230lbs. I am capable to swing the Driver around 116-118 mph, in balance can hold the finish all day. If I really step on it I can whip it around topping out at 124mph. Why, have I told you this?? I have a driver with 13 degress of loft and a "regular" flex shaft..lord knows what it really is. Now, I have been reading alot on this forum and Brian Manzellas forum, so I am getting great info on the how to. I am also reading books on equipment, I have read all of Wishons books, and what I have in my hands does not match with what my body is able to produce...according to Wishon. So....What do you guys think???? How do I burn a hole in my pocket??All suggestions/comments are welcome.

    All the best,

    VJ

    VJ,

Did you decide where you are going to take lessons yet? I would recommend not getting any clubs until you take a lesson and get some advice from the pro. The wishon irons are really great, but it is difficult to get fitted unless you have a somewhat consistent contact pattern when striking balls. I always like it better when there can be some swing adjustsments before the fitting.

    Hope that helps!

I have a question about the fitting and how it effects set-up parameters. I obtained some clubs from a friend of mine thinking that this way I could at least, practice the grip, start to work on a pattern...etc. Then it dawned on me that I could possibly be screwing myself up by having the wrong equipment. So I looked it up...My wrist measurement to the floor is 37in. and the club I got is 1 in. over standard and 2 degrees upright, according to ping that is. I am not sure how to measure the 5iron so I cant tell you exactly how long the club is..sorry. My question is, How bad could ill-fit equipment mess me up when I'm learning the set-up and even going forward when I start taking lessons?

    VJ,

It can cause some problems, there is no real way of telling how your clubs should be fit from 'static' measurements. Static measurements are those that are taken when you are not swinging. Measurements from address and so on and so forth, the only fitting that is done statically is a putter. Fitting for clubs needs to take place with a somewhat consistent swing pattern and that has been customized for the student. From there, hitting off a lie board and taking some shaft measurements is a great way to do it. But the real key is, that your fitter is also your swing coach and knows what he or she is doing.
