Email question about Flightscope –

Whenever I get email questions, I like to insert them here and get everyone in the habit of asking and discussing here so we can have a bevy of information all in one place that is searchable. Here is the question:
Dear Mike,
I received my X2 and the unit clearly does a better job measure the club than the previous model, specifically angle of attack.
I have a question I am hoping you can answer about the acceleration graph. First, my speed profile shows a relatively straight line without a lot of humps and bumps with a slight change in slope right before impact. My acceleration profile shows a similar, relatively hump and bump free profile except right before impact where the curve bottoms out then shoots back up, almost like a fish hook. This uptick occurs before impact. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I am going to move this conversation to the forum as I am trying to keep all of my answers in one place...... check it out there
The acceleration graph is of the G Forces in the shaft and a peek at shaft deflection ...
I assume you saw this with a driver? The driver shaft will have the highest bending mode as the center of mass of the driver head is well behind the shaft and will seek to line up with the hands near impact creating a bend mode of the shaft and the fish hook on the graph. How much of a fish hook is suitable? You want to then match it up with dynamic loft and the vertical launch
The golf club is experiencing a tremendous G load during a golf swing and this graph is giving you a sense of it
Irons won't deflect that much so any fish hook in the graph would be alarming
The speed profile is measuring the club head speed from when it enters the radar field until impact, a dent in the graph shows a leveling off or maybe even a slowing of the club head if the dent starts to move the other way. Is this good or bad, obviously we want to maximize speed at impact but if it is leveling off at a healthy speed that is fine too as shaft behavior favors coasting into the impact
Hope that helps and congrats on the X2
