    Joe,

I assume we are talking about the POP golf instruction term 'covering the ball'

I have heard it passed around many times, is there a certain topic that you heard it in that you are looking for an explanation of??

It is one of those poor open ended golfing terminologies that doesn't help a sole

    Joe,

I have heard the term 'cover the ball' used many times.

The most useful would be the notion of the club face de-lofting or closing down to cover the ball through the hitting area. Having a preset notion of doing that before the striking move could improve the impact conditions.

The club face is not going to do much closing while in contact with the ball, maybe a maximum of a .5-1 degree but the notion of doing it may help the golfer's delivery.

So, thats about all I can come up with for the phrase 'cover the ball' helping a golfer

    Joe,

Covering the ball with your body?? I have heard some people who came for their first lesson say that this is what they were working on. I sometimes see people trying to imagine they are covering the ball with the right shoulder through the strike. Could help someone, anything could help in some cases.
Thanks for the holiday wishes, same to you.... I will be ready for the spring!

For those that want to know, and i`m not crazy

Covering the ball, in the vernacular that I am familiar with, means a higher, "on top of it" right shoulder through impact.

this works very well with flatter eventual sweetspot CoG paths.

So, an example of a golfer who would aim left and cover it would be Ben Hogan.
