Mike, just a thought here about the cp. You mentioned that the cp was between the hands and seeing jack nicklaus was so great with the release(interlock) that your talking about would it make a difference with the 3 grips, overlap, interlock, baseball which would make a quicker or better release or would you say it would not matter.....joe

Well I thought about my theory on the different grips and decided to try it out. WOW. I used the interlock grip for the first time in my life (playing 20 yrs) What a difference it made with my swing. I dont think its a bandaid but I never hit the ball so solidly before. My release was defitnaly better I will try it on the course tomorrow and let you know if its for real. This I know my realease is better....jp

    Joe,

Great question and glad you experienced a better feeling release.

I coined the word 'Couple Point' to serve as a reference point. It is the best reference point available to the golfer and mapping out its path is a key for improvement.

As for your grip question, the golfer can choose any which way to join their hands but there may be a best grip suited for each person. The interlock grip couples the hands very close together and has 1 less finger attached to the handle so it may feel less inhibited than the other grip styles. The 10 finger grips houses all 10 fingers for torquing the club on the way down.

I have always played with interlock and have let my students join their hands the way that they prefer unless it was causing a problem. A lot of times when interlocking, the golfers start to shift their hands and compromise club face control. Keep us posted!

regarding grip types, does the 10 finger perhaps allow too much hand action, or lend itself to flipping more than the others?

    Thats an interesting question landshark:

The 10 finger grip has a bit more leverage as all fingers encircle the handle with the right hand completely below the left. When you interlock or overlap your hands are as close together as possible.

Overlap grip has 9 fingers on the club and gets the hands very close together

Interlock has 8 fingers on the club and gets the hands as close together as they can be.

The further the right hand gets from the left the more it can torque the club and give the golfer the sensation of greater hand action.

Here is a little office video demonstrating -- I placed it also in a new thread
