Great question and glad you experienced a better feeling release.
I coined the word 'Couple Point' to serve as a reference point. It is the best reference point available to the golfer and mapping out its path is a key for improvement.
As for your grip question, the golfer can choose any which way to join their hands but there may be a best grip suited for each person. The interlock grip couples the hands very close together and has 1 less finger attached to the handle so it may feel less inhibited than the other grip styles. The 10 finger grips houses all 10 fingers for torquing the club on the way down.
I have always played with interlock and have let my students join their hands the way that they prefer unless it was causing a problem. A lot of times when interlocking, the golfers start to shift their hands and compromise club face control. Keep us posted!
