Just curious as to what you guys think about club fitting for a high handicapper. I've pretty much seen a 50/50 split in threads on various other forums as to whether or not it would benefit a high handicapper. Some think that since your swing will change it is not worth it, while other think that it can only help.

At what point in your game did you get fit?

    spmurph,

Thats a great question, ultimately as a teacher/fitter I like to see some type of a repeatable movement before we start to discuss equipment fitting. There are many instances where beginners come with junk clubs that are made with Alloy heads and have lofts that are drastically low.
Contrary to popular belief, club weight is probably the biggest issue for a beginner. The overall weight of the club vs how the golfer can handle that weight is the first approach I take.
Those are just some opinions based on my experiences, as for the actual purchase of the clubs I would definitely have some type of fitting involved. Fitted clubs cost the same, so you might as well have something that is suited for you.

Thanks for the response Mike. Are you still going to be a Ping fitter?

Your welcome and yes I will have the Ping fitting system with their Nflight software and all the trimmings. I will of course have a large presence of my own Explosive Designs. I brought Ping in this year mostly for some other Iron options and to have some options for Lefty golfers.

The Explosive Design Woods and Hybrids are no doubt a superior line of woods to any other I have come across. Not saying that because I designed them, but because the materials and characteristics are unique.

The driver is made of 15-3-3 Beta Ti which is one of the best materials available. There was one other material available to us that had a comparable quality but led to cost prohibitiveness on the driver as we would have had to charge double the price for the driver. We feel the $229 price with our stock shaft is an excellent price point. The main design feature of the driver is the 1 degree open club face design. You will be hard pressed to find an open faced driver on the market, and I feel there is a huge advantage to an open face design (more on that another time)

What type of clubs were you looking at ?? If you ever want me to take you through a Flightscope fitting it can be ultimately matched to any type of golf clubs that you are interested in. I can also show you how much of the data relates to equipment needs or technique adjustment needs.

Don't quite know if I'm ready for a full fitting but that's something we can look at when I come for a lesson in the spring. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks again for the response Mike.
