    MJ,
I have been sitting here in recovery reading over Bobby Clampett's "Impact Zone" (i am dangerous to myself when I am confined). in the book Bobby describes the aiming point of the hands to be on the target line but I am not quite sure what he means by that, could you explain the value of this and maybe expand on what he means by target line ?

I would also be interested to hear the explanation of the aiming point.I get what its about, helping to strike down with forward shaft lean but when i try it i tend to swing across the ball with an extreme in to out path.

    Cheers

    Ric,

Great question... I can give you a very complete answer on this. The question I have for everyone is how gentle would you like me to be on the answer? Reason being is that this concept needs to be ripped to shreads and I would be more than happy to share my thoughts .....

I think it would be a good concept if you wanted to be a underplane, left wrist down arching low hooker. Or maybe you'd like to play a 30 or 40 yard push out to right feild.

Mike, what's the target audience for this concept?? Would'nt this tend to getter a better player headed towards UPS in a hurry?

Based strictly on my experience, when I tried this approach, it was a miserable failure. In throwing my hands toward the target, I released the club wayyyyyyy too late with all sorts of aggravating albeit interesting results. The only time I have very active hands is with some wedge shots.

Mike and Shot, do not be too hasty in quashing this approach. Whilst I was doing this maneuver, I did learn a great deal. It really improved my play out of the rough, forced me to learn all about punch shots from the trees, the importance of looking for tree roots in front of your ball, and where I could get clubs reshafted quickly.

I didn't say it never came in handy!

It's also why I asked Mike his opinion on who the target audience would be. Maybe it would be helpful to some?

I didn't read that book so I really don't know the whole context of the OP. When I think about it and visualize getting may hands aimed at the target line, It produces a more outward hand path than I want.

I realize this may not be true for all. Would love to hear Mike's thoughts.

    I just went through this.
I think what clampett meant was the hands take a straight line delivery path to the ball(target line). Although in reality, your hands will actually end up over your left toe.(TGM) Which would be in turn be to much forward shaft lean. When performing this, the tendency is to drag the handle through impact which is not the most efficient way to swing and can produce some very bad habits..

Mike can explain why its not right.
