Default Acceleration Profiles on FlightScope - 07-21-2010, 10:38 PM

Hello Mike,

I was watching your YouTube video with the FlightScope and you stated that they disregard the acceleration profile after impact.

Is that because FlightScope doesn't feel you can accurately measure the acceleration profile after impact or is it because it's more or less unimportant?

Richie3jack,

The acceleration profile measurement of post impact is disregarded due to accuracy after divot & or mat strike. I think in future versions they will probably stop the measurement of the profile at impact. Currently, the measurement is continued after the impact and it is dismissed. Hope that helps your understanding

Thanks, Mike.

One more question though --- would the reading of the post-impact acceleration profile be accurate if it was a driver that is teed up?

3 Jack,

I have always dismissed it and never given it much of a look. Next time I have it out I will take note, the Flightscope does have a unique driver setting where you identify the tee height which makes all measurements even more precise

Thanks, Mike.

I'd be very interested if the data with the driver was valid post-impact and seeing what that meant.

One of the theories I've been rattling around my brain is that golfers who decelerate less post-impact will hit the ball better than those who have a jerky or much more deceleration after impact.

I've heard guys like Johnny Miller state that they accelerated after impact. Obviously, that's physically impossible. But, I'm thinking they may have had much less deceleration post-impact than even most PGA Tour stars.

I'm also thinking that heavier clubs, particularly heavier clubheads may have caused less deceleration post-impact over today's lighter titanium drivers.

Again, just theories. I could be wrong and there could be no correlation between post impact deceleration and ballstriking. But it's one of those things I'd like to see researched.

Richie,

I have been sold out morning till night, but tomorrow I have set aside hours to work on the website here. Would you like me to post up some screen shots of the acceleration profile of drivers and various golfers???

That would be awesome. But, don't go too far out of your way. I know you're really busy.
